Prospect is committed to providing learning opportunities for its service users, staff and Board members. We aim to maximise potential, increase confidence and continuously improve skills through the learning opportunities provided. Hence we have achieved the Bronze Award in Investors in People.
We have a firm belief in the importance of reinforcing in individuals, our positive values, attitude and culture.
In order to achieve this, thepast year has seen the consolidation of our training provision as well as improvements in many areas.
The Learning and Development and Human Resources Development have now been operating as one department for a year, with a new Trainer / IVC appointed.
The Training Centre continues to be recognised by City and Guilds, supported by a n umber of assessors and internal verifiers.
Our Training Centre has introduced the new Common Induction Standards to meet industry requirements.
The training centre is piloting the new Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2, with the gradual introduction of other levels over the forthcoming year.
The Centre provides Mandatory Training and ensures that all staff training is refreshed and meets current standards in practice and legislation.
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)
Prospect Learning and Development Centre (PLDC) is an NVQ Centre that provides NVQs to our staff. We have maintained approval from City adn Guilds to operate as a registered centre providing NVQs at levels 2, 3 and 4 in Health and Social Care, the Registered Managers Adult Award and the new Leadership and Management Award. In addition to these awards we have also gained City and Guilds' approval to provide Diplomas in Health and Social Care under the Qualification and Credit Framework.
Induction Award
All of our new staff members undertake and complete planned learning that meets all the Common Induction Standards. In addition to this, staff have to demonstrate competency in their work place in order to receive recogntiion in completing the Induction Award in Supporting People with a Learning Disability.
As of March 2011, the Centre has started offering the new Common Induction Standards to all new starters who join the sector as per the requirements of Skills for Care. This replaces the Induction Award and is provided in two parts, planned learning and the completion of an Award booklet to demonstrate competency. STaff are expected to complete this Award in 12 weeks.
Training Strategy
We have continued a staff development programme which assists support staff to obtain the necessary skills to enhance their confidence and performance in order that they may apply for senior positions.
We have continued to provide literacy development training for staff as required.
Development of Managers
The Senior Management Team received training to enable them to lead Prospect through change. This was achieved through planned learning sets as well as away days and individual coaching provided by a Business Development Consultant. The Scheme Managers have also received developmental training in relation to managing change as well as to develop their leadership skills.
Most Scheme Manager, the Chief Executive and Assistant Directors completed PTTLS (Preparing to Teach in the Life-long Learning Sector) training this years.
